Ideas for Family History Research
This 24th of July, you can discover information about your pioneer ancestors in several different ways.
- Use this link: https://www.familysearch.org/campaign/pioneers/ and sign into FamilySearch to find relatives who crossed the plains between 1847 and 1869 before the railroad came to Utah.
- Use this link: https://saintsbysea.lib.byu.edu/ to find relatives who came over from Europe, Scandinavia, or other locations and immigrated to Utah.
- We all have “pioneer” ancestors, even if they didn’t cross the plains. You could write the story of one of your ancestors (or yourself!) Who was the first person to join the church? How did they meet missionaries? What was their experience? We need to keep the memories of these “pioneers” too!
- For a fun family activity, use Relative Finder: https://www.relativefinder.org/#/main to see if you are related to famous pioneers, prophets, and church leaders (or sports figures and movie stars!)
- If you need assistance finding this information or with any part of your Family History, call Ron Nielsen, Debbi Radack, Sue Odendahl, or Marianne Bates for help.
