Pioneers and Family History

This 24th of July, you can discover information about your pioneer ancestors in several different ways.

·        Use this link    https://www.familysearch.org/campaign/pioneers/ and sign into FamilySearch to see relatives who crossed the plains between 1847 and 1869 before the railroad came to Utah.

·        Did you know that many converts crossed the sea, sometimes with groups of Saints and sometimes by themselves and then traveled to Utah by wagon or train?  You can look for your relatives who came over from Europe, Scandinavia, or other places at the church’s Saints by Sea website    https://saintsbysea.lib.byu.edu/

·        We all have “pioneer” ancestors, even if they didn’t cross the plains.  You could write the story of one of your ancestors (or yourself!) who was the first person to join the church.  How did they meet missionaries? What was their experience? We need to keep the memories of these “pioneers” too!

·        For a fun family activity, use Relative Finder   https://www.relativefinder.org/#/main  to see if you are related to famous pioneers, prophets, and church leaders (or sports figures and movie stars!)

·        For these activities, you have to sign into Family Search.  Your sign-in information is the same username and password you use for your LDS account to pay tithing, access the Library and Tools.  If you need help with finding out this information or assistance with any part of your Family History, call Debbi Radack, Sue Odendahl or Marianne Bates for help!
